Art Therapy

Encouraging Expression

Experience the transformative power of art therapy

Art therapy serves as a powerful medium for self-expression and healing. It goes beyond the act of creating art and delves into the process itself, allowing you to explore emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a non-verbal and creative manner, in the safety of a therapeutic relationship.

Explore beliefs, experiences, and navigate interconnected aspects of your life

Are you experiencing increased levels of stress due to the daily demands of your role?

As a carer you may struggle with limited time and energy for yourself. Art therapy offers a dedicated space where you can take a break and focus on your well-being. It can also provide an outlet for you to release tension and explore stress triggers. Through creative expression, you may find relief, reduce stress, and regain a sense of calm.

Do you worry about the well-being of your loved ones, managing complex tasks, or an uncertain future?

Art therapy offers a space to express anxious thoughts and emotions, fostering a sense of control and providing a safe environment to confront uneasy feelings. Through art-making and relaxation techniques, you may cultivate a greater sense of peace and resilience.

Do ongoing challenges of your role impact your mood?

Art therapy encourages self-expression, allowing you to explore and process feelings of sadness, isolation, hopelessness, and exhaustion. Engaging in art-making may lift mood, promote self-esteem, and provide a source of joy and fulfilment.

Are you witnessing the decline or loss of a loved ones' health?

Art therapy offers a space to express and navigate the complexities of grief. Through art-making, you can honour memories, process emotions, and engage in creative rituals. It allows for the exploration of grief's multifaceted nature, fostering healing, and facilitating your grieving process.

Art therapy provides a confidential space where you can freely express yourself without judgement. It’s not an art lesson, and it’s not about being an artist, or aiming for perfection. Art materials are available as a tool for communication and exploration whenever you need. Previous experience or artistic ability is not necessary to participate.

It's important to recognise that art therapy is a gradual process of self-discovery, healing, and growth. We will progress at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful to you. Our collaboration will be a partnership that develops over time and relies on your commitment.

The duration of an individual session is 60 minutes. Group sessions are longer and depend on the number of participants. Sessions take place in person, on a weekly basis.

How does art therapy work?

  • During the initial consultation, we will have an opportunity to get to know each other and discuss your needs, goals, and expectations for art therapy. You can share your caregiving experiences, challenges, and any specific areas you'd like to focus on. We will explore how art therapy can support you and determine if it is the right fit for your unique situation. It's a chance for us to establish a rapport and for me to gather information to ensure the therapy process best meet your needs.

  • In the first few weeks we will gain a deeper understanding of your unique circumstances and the underlying factors impacting your individual journey. These interactions will help inform the direction and focus of our art therapy sessions, ensuring that the therapeutic interventions align with your specific needs and goals.

  • You may choose to create artwork that represents your emotions, experiences, or challenges related to caregiving. This could involve using colours, shapes, and images to express your thoughts and feelings. We can explore different themes or topics that resonate with you, allowing you to dive deeper into your inner world.

  • As you engage in the creative process, I will guide you in reflecting on your artwork. We will explore the personal meanings behind your creations. This process can bring new insights and understanding of yourself, your caregiving role, and the emotions you may be experiencing. We will discuss these insights together, uncovering patterns or connections that arise from your art.

  • Art therapy offers a unique way to tap into your subconscious and express what may be difficult to put into words. It can help you gain clarity, uncover emotions, and find a sense of relief. Artistic expression also allows you to step back and observe your artwork from a different perspective, providing new insights and fresh perspectives on your experiences. As we continue our sessions, you may notice shifts in your awareness, increased resilience, and new coping strategies emerging.

  • Throughout our sessions, I will provide support, encouragement, and validation as you explore your artworks and the emotions it evokes. Your well-being is my priority, and we will adapt the sessions to meet your specific needs and pace. Together, we will foster a therapeutic relationship built on trust and empathy.

My approach

My approach is integrative, which means I adapt the therapeutic process to meet your specific needs and preferences. Drawing from different therapeutic models like person-centred, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based approaches, I create a framework that supports you in exploring your emotions, increasing self-awareness, developing coping strategies, and fostering resilience.

Person-centred

A person-centred approach focuses on honouring and respecting your unique experiences, emotions, and needs. It places you at the centre of the therapeutic process, allowing you to explore and express yourself authentically.

Psychodynamic

The psychodynamic approach in art therapy delves into deeper layers of meaning and symbolism, unveiling hidden emotions, unresolved conflicts, and unconscious patterns. This helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

Mindfulness based

Mindfulness principles in art therapy encourage you to be fully present in the creative process. It involves allowing thoughts and emotions to arise without attachment or resistance. This approach fosters a sense of calm and inner peace.
